Warriors are making it clear by their actions: They’ve got the 72-win Chicago Bulls in their sights

The Warriors have won seven in a row and are now 44-4, heading into Wednesday’s game against the Wizards. It wasn’t long ago that the Warriors, themselves, and their fans felt the team was in a little bit of a malaise. Not anymore, of course.

The Warriors are once again ahead of the 72-win pace of the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who set a single-season record for victories. And so the question once again has been rekindled: Should the Warriors go for that Bulls’ record, and try to win 73 games in a season?

In case you haven’t noticed, the Warriors have already made that decision: They’re going for it. And they’ve been going for it all season long. They might not be chirping about it, but they want it in a big way. It shows in their actions.

There seems to be a feeling that the Warriors have two choices: They can focus on beating the Bulls’ single-season win mark or they can cast it aside and try to make sure they’re completely healthy for Game 1 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. After all, repeating as World Champions is their primary goal.

But make no mistake: They’re chasing the Bulls, even if they’re trying to tell you otherwise. And the reason is because they’re still searching for that elusive respect that they don’t believe they’re getting.

Mychal Thompson: on the Warriors becoming the greatest team in NBA history, Klay’s demeanor and Draymond Green’s toughest matchups

We had a couple of terrific conversations on the “NBA This Week” show, welcoming in Mychal Thompson and Mike Wise. Thompson, of course, is a two-time NBA Champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, current radio analyst and dad to Warriors’ guard Klay Thompson. Wise was a long-time Knicks beat writer for the New York Times, worked as a columnist for the Washington Post and now works for the Theundefeated.com, which an ESPN venture.

To listen to the “NBA This Week” show, click here or at bottom of text.

Here are some talking points from Thompson’s interview:

–Whether the Warriors meant it or not, their convincing win over the Spurs on Monday was a “statement” game.

–Where does Klay Thompson get his laid-back demeanor and why does he “keep everything inside.” His dad knows the answer.

–He believes the Warriors have a chance to be the greatest team in NBA history. That’s right, NBA history. Thompson says the reasons the Warriors have a chance to be better than his “Showtime” Lakers  are how well-coached they are and the fact he believes they’re the greatest shooting team of all time.

–Who are the toughest matchups for Warriors power forward Draymond Green? Thompson gives his candidates. Thompson also believes there’s a team out there — and it’s not the Spurs — who can take the Warriors to “six or seven games.”

Congratulations to F&M’s Glenn Robinson, one of only four coaches in NCAA history to win 900 games

Hard to believe the guy I played for in college is one of the all-time greats of the coaching game. With his 900th win earlier this year, Franklin and Marshall’s Glenn Robinson joined an exclusive club that includes only Mike Krzyzewski, Herb Magee and Bobby Knight.

Happy to share this video to celebrate Coach’s incredible achievement. And plenty more wins to come. I’m in here somewhere, along with a ton of other guys who could play a little bit.

The only honor remaining for Robinson is induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. No reason he shouldn’t be in there!
