At 15-17, Warriors enter 2024 in state of confusion

Warriors are 15-17 as the new year begins, and they’ve got a lot going on. Here are a few of the things I’ve been thinking Warriors-wise …

–I get that there are circumstances regarding every situation, but I’ve been thinking alot about former Warriors president Bob Myers and current coach Steve Kerr. It’s very rare in the NBA for an executive or coach to go into a lame-duck year with uncertain status. The thinking is that going into that final year, you either know the guy ain’t part of the future or that he is.

The reality is that Myers and Kerr, two four-time champions as executive and coach, respectively, have each entered the final years of their deals with nothing on the horizon. My only point is that it is very unusual. And it’s really, really unusual for it to happen with the Warriors, Myers and Kerr.

–Who knows when Draymond Green returns — or if he ever will. Do I think he’ll return? Yes. But what can we expect when Green comes back? Do things get better? Do they get worse? How does the dynamic change? How do you view his possible return with the assessment of the team’s short-term and long-term future?

–Warriors owner Joe Lacob believed this team had one more run in them before the season started. Does he still believe that now? If he does, there’s only one thing to do — ride out the present. But if he no longer believes that’s realistic, then the question becomes: What now?
