‘NBA This Week’: Are Warriors playing best basketball of season? Impressive wins getting lost in shuffle; Cousins awaits; Varejao waived; LeBron-Barkley back and forth

Looking forward to Saturday’s “NBA This Week” show on 95.7-FM, and there’s so much to talk about. Just a matter of organizing it all. The Warriors have won 12 of 13 and are playing their best basketball of the season, or so it seems. How do you really measure it? Right now they’re 43-7 … on pace for 70 wins or so.

Here is a good outline of what we’ll be talking about during the three hours. And very much looking forward to talking to Chuck Swirsky, Sekou Smith and Tim Bontemps. Should be fun. Let me know if you think we’re missing anything …

–“Ever since Christmas … ” feels like that’s how Curry’s season is breaking down this year. Ever since that 11-shot game against Cleveland, things have changed. No doubt a defining moment of the season. But it was going good well before that. People just didn’t notice.

–Quietly, and without any excitement or fanfare the Warriors just routinely beat Portland and the Los Angeles Clippers on the second of back-to-back nights, without being at full strength. This team  doesn’t stop being impressive.

–These notes were before the Warriors waived Anderson Varejao and brought in Briante Weber.

‘Warriors WrapUp’: Another win against Clippers, this one 133-120; Griffin, Jordan can’t take advantage of banged-up Warriors

The Warriors were missing their starting frontline and two of their key reserves, and still went down to LA, on the second game of a back-to-back, and handled the Clippers 133-120 on Thursday.

It was the ninth straight time the Warriors have beaten the Clippers, but this one had to be one of the most demoralizing for the Clippers. Yes, LA was without Chris Paul, but the Warriors were missing starting center Zaza Pachulia, starting power forward Draymond Green, Shaun Livingston and David West. And they had played the night before in Oakland, a 126-101 win over Charlotte.

One of the constants during the Warriors’ winning streak over the Clippers is that they have been able to consistently win the battle of the interior. Whether it’s been Andrew Bogut at center, like in years past, or Zaza Pachulia this year — when you put either one of them alongside Draymond Green Golden State has had the advantage against DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin.

‘Warriors WrapUp’: Fast start keys 126-111 victory over Hornets; Curry finishes with 39 points in 30 minutes; Warriors go 21-for-48 from 3-point range

The start was remarkable and the rest of the game wasn’t bad either for the Warriors on Wednesday night at Oracle Arena. Stephen Curry led a beginning to end onslaught of the Hornets, a game that ended up 126-111.

Curry finished with 39 points in just 30 minutes, including 11-for-15 from beyond the arc. Naturally, he didn’t play in the fourth quarter, meaning he wasn’t given a chance to equal or surpass his NBA-record 13 3-pointers in a  game.

The 3-ball was a big-time theme for the Warriors against Charlotte as they went 21-for-48 from beyond the arc. Klay Thompson, who finished with 29 points, went 6-for-10 from 3-point range.

I’ll post link to “Warriors WrapUp,” the postgame show on 95.7-FM The Game when it becomes available.
